The CME designate is required to re-certify their CME status every five years beginning with the date they receive the designation.
To re-certify, candidates must have had professional involvement within the past five years in any area relating to the exhibition industry. Candidates are also required to document that they have earned the equivalent of fifteen points during this time period. These points can be obtained based on the following formula:
One point for each five contact hours of attended exhibit-related education programs;
Two points for each course or presentation given at an industry education event;
.25 points for each panel discussion in which the candidate has participated;
Two points for each article published in a professional journal, newsletter or magazine, including print and electronic;
Two points for each year of service on an industry task force, committee or governing body;
.5 points for each year of TSEA membership (maximum of 2.5 points)
.5 points for each year of active involvement in the exhibit management environment (maximum of 2.5 points).
TSEA will contact all CMEs required to recertify 14 months in advance of their expiration date to allow time for collecting points.
Failure to meet the recertification requirements by the TSEA issued deadline means that the CME will lose the designation and can no longer use the credentials in any way or form.
TSEA and HCEA CEUs still count double for the recertification points.
Verification for recertification will be done by TSEA staff. If there is any dispute with verification, it will be reviewed by the CME Advisory Council.
